Matthew 4: 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Does anyone see the ironic correlation between the power and popularity of the Pope compared to the above? Is it possible that the catholics, over time, made decisions that escalated a religion made of a man that was placed into a position that Jesus rejected?
Just a thought. I just can't get into the ring kissing of someone who is "God with us", and to think most religions followed suit.

YHWH gave the Israelites the land in return for worship.

To me, the temptations prove that Jesus could be tempted. As always, your milage may vary.
