This ignorance of the father brought about terror and fear. And terror became dense like a fog, so no one was able to see. Because of this, error became strong. But she worked on her material substance vainly, because she did not know the truth. She assumed a fashioned figure while she was preparing, in power and in beauty, the substitute for truth.
This, then, was not a humiliation for the illimitable, inconceivable one. For they were as nothing, this terror and this forgetfulness and this figure of falsehood, whereas established truth is unchanging, unperturbed, and completely beautiful.
For this reason, do not take error too seriously.
Since error had no root, she was in a fog regarding the father. She was preparing works and forgetfulnesses and fears in order, by these means, to beguile those of the middle and to make them captive. The forgetfulness of error was not revealed. It did not become light beside the father. Forgetfulness did not exist with the father, although it existed because of him. What exists in him is knowledge, which was revealed so that forgetfulness might be destroyed and that the father might be known. Since forgetfulness existed because the father was not known, if the father comes to be known, from that moment on forgetfulness will cease to exist. - Gospel of Truth
There are few forces that have an effect on our life as fear does. It prevents us from doing the things we want to do in our lives and keeps us from living. It blinds us from seeing things for what they really are. The typical response to fear is to run or destroy, or fight or flight, both of which while necessary for survival, often times, it hinders our survival. That same survival instinct, is the same instinct that makes us fear foreigners, or anything that is other than us. It's also one that some people have mastered control over using it to incite mass hysteria in others. Fear is a force that rules many people's lives because it hinders us from doing what is right in our lives and even from just living at all.
Christ revealed to us in his teachings that the opposite of faith is not knowledge as some ignorantly profess, but fear. It is fear that prevents faith from taking root. Now there are some that say that faith is just set of beliefs but that's a shallow meaning of the word. Faith is conviction and confidence. It is the strength needed to face uncertainty, for good or ill. It is through faith that we learn Godly love and brings use knowledge of the Father-Mother, gnosis. Without faith we cut ourselves off from receiving love. If we cannot receive love then we cannot give it for the love we give comes from that which we receive through faith.
Fear is only as powerful as what is unknown. Let that sink in for a moment, fear is only as power as what is unknown. It is through the lack of understanding, lack of love, lack of any type of knowledge that lets fear take hold. It becomes a substitute for what is true and real in our lives. Fear has no foundation so will try to find new ways to fit into new knowledge and facts that come into our lives. It will try to undermine what we see and hear for ourselves. It is faith that allows us to confront fear for faith is confidence and conviction. We place our faith in that which is true in our lives so when we place our faith in that which is true, we take away a space where fear can hide. This is not an idle faith that is mere belief but a faith that is active and growing. It is the same faith that Christ and millions of Christians before us who received the resurrection in their lives. It is same faith as Martin Luther King Jr who showed us how to face the fear of senseless violence. This faith has always existed and continues to exist in us and will exist beyond us now. Faith is the enemy of fear because fear is the enemy of truth.
This fear makes us forgetful of the love that God has for use because it makes us unable to receive love. For if we do not have faith we cannot receive love and if we don't have faith then what we have is fear and fear is what keeps us from resurrecting and from abiding in the love of God. We remain dead, empty shells of who we are. We are children of God and brothers and sisters of Christ. The seed that exists in Christ, exists in us. Christ showed us that despite his suffering and persecution he continued to live, not because he avoided his sufferings, but because he had the faith to confront it for what it really was. Rather than letting fear magnify his sufferings, he faced them as they really were and showed that it's not as bad as what it seemed. He showed that fear had no power over him and lived a life that was authentic, a life that was resurrected because he lived with truth. This is a life we can have to we choose to accept it. We can know the Father-Mother in our life if we choose to not live in fear but live in faith with the hope of gnosis. While there are things to be afraid of, there are times where we let fear magnify them to being worse than what they actually are. What fears do we magnify in our life? How many fears in our life have basis in reality? Fear is part of being human, we all have them, but it is faith that allows us to live life. Faith let's us see what is real and what is just fog. Do not take error seriously, for fear is only as powerful as what you do not know. And error is only corrected when you have the faith to test error for what it is. Error will perish, but truth will always remain.
