78. Jesus said, "Why have you come out to the countryside? To see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a person dressed in soft clothes, [like your] rulers and your powerful ones? They are dressed in soft clothes, and they cannot understand truth." - Gospel of Thomas
6 The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. - Galatians 6:6-10
“So I say to you, be sober. Do not go astray. And often have I said to you all together, and also to you alone, James, be saved. I have commanded you to follow me, and I have taught you how to speak before the rulers.
“See that I have come down and have spoken and have exerted myself and have won my crown when I saved you. I came down to live with you, so you might also live with me. And when I found that your houses had no roofs, I lived in houses that could receive me when I came down.
“Trust me, my brothers. Understand what the great light is. The father does not need me. A father does not need a son, but it is the son who needs the father. To him I am going, for the father of the son is not in need of you.
“Listen to the word, understand knowledge, love life, and no one will persecute you and no one will oppress you other than you yourselves.” - Apocryphon of James
There are many people out there who are more than happy to tell you how to live your life. Many people who promise you the world all if you do what they say. They have bright smiles and fancy suits and assure you that they know you better than you can ever know yourself. If this does not set off your “something's wrong detector”, then you might want to examine the life you're living. There is no one who will ever know you better than you will. No guru, authority, or leader is going to know how to live your life better than you will. In fact such people are blinded to reality because of their position and status. A study about 3 years ago showed that there is a disconnect between wealth and one's ability to be empathetic. While wealth does not necessarily mean status, it is often closely linked together. This is not to undermine what knowledge such people might have that can be useful, but it's a reminder that such people are not you. They do not know your gospel, and only “you” can tell your gospel.
Everyone at this moment is living their gospel. We are the hero, the protagonist of our own story. How are we wanting our story to play out? Are we wanting a life of pursuing of what others want for us or are we going to live authentically? Each of us has a Christ within us, that true image of our humanity and our divinity. This Christ is present in our live when we are honest about who we are and how we live our lives for it is through this honesty and reflection that we come to see what type of people we are. This is a call to be reflective since an unexamined life, a life that ignores our shadow, is one that denies reality and truth about ourselves; for what hides in the shadows will never come to light if it is not explored. What we leave hidden in the shadows keeps us from participating in the Fullness. We partake in the Fullness when we are honest about what and why we do what do.
Choosing to partake in the Fullness is a choice you have to make. No one can force you to live your life and there are plenty around who are more than happy to take control. There will be those who will not want you to be honest with yourself but again they aren't you and they don't know your gospel. Choosing to bring forth the Christ within and living a life honestly is one you have to actively partake. No force can coerce you in partaking in this other than the force that is within you, that is you.
Salvation is an invitation to live life in the Fullness in the here and now. The resurrection can only be received while we are living in the here and now. It is through the resurrection that we bring forth Christ into our world and can participate in the Fullness. By participating in the Fullness we join in with the other Aeons and come closer to God. But without that perfect image of God, the Christ that is within us, we risk chasing our own shadow and missing the mark. That perfect image can only be seen though when we are honest with who we are. To live another way is follow a distorted image and put you under gods of your own or others' creation. I encourage everyone to look within themselves and find the Christ that is within them. Let your life be meaningful and partake in the Fullness that is right before us.
