Please list non-contemporary authors, Church leaders, ancient or medieval works, historic events, time-periods, geographic areas and denominations that You think are over-rated! The focus with all these questions is mainly on 70 C.E. until around 185 C.E. plus Origen. Plus You can tell me if there's some other, later period or Church Father which is very often over-emphasized in books! For example, do You think it's of any use to study early medieval Roman-Catholic Church in France and Church Fathers in general or which specific Church Fathers are overrated? Or John Hus (I have his works already, got them cheap)? Is there any point in studying things such as India? Also England/Wales/Scotland/Ireland or late medieval (from 1450 and onwards) and early modern Africa?
Answers to this would help me greatly in limiting my studies and expenses. I ask on this forum because I trust the opinions of the average participant here better than the average participant on other forums where I'm registered.
Earlier on in life I've been fed with newer denominations but not anymore. Now I want to investigate other things and have recently started to understand early historical religious periods much better. But I have a lot to learn because of my previous ignorance.
