He seems to be making a big stir. Even atheists seem to think he's great.
I thought his comments about atheists were kind of odd. He said something to the effect that God will forgive atheists (something to the effect of) if they do good works and live by the conscience.
He's said something similar before. I'd never really heard any Christian promote a "do good works for salvation" type of message. I'm not sure what to think of it since that seems in, some ways at least, contradictory to everything else about Christianity.

I honestly haven't given the new pope much thought, as catholicism is so far removed from my core beliefs. I wish him well and anything that spreads the name of Christ, but salvation to me is a specific term reserved for healing of the soul.
