18. The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us, how will our end come?"
Jesus said, "Have you found the beginning, then, that you are looking for the end? You see, the end will be where the beginning is.
Congratulations to the one who stands at the beginning: that one will know the end and will not taste death." - Gospel of Thomas

Today's meditation passage is short and very profound. What is our ending? How will our story end? The ending is where the beginning is. If you want to reach the ending, you have to seek a beginning. Where ever a journey begins, a journey has ended. Seems very practical and straight forward but we often miss this in our lives. We wonder when conflicts will end in our life, when will fears end, when will things become better but we must ask ourselves do not these things end when we choose to have a new beginning? When we allow ourselves to be resurrected into a new life we have found the beginning.
Beginnings also set the pacing and tone for how the story will play out. When you know how the story starts, you know how the story will end. And with each ending is a new beginning so the ending is never really the end but always a new beginning. Even when we die, we have ended the chapter of our human life and moved on to another chapter where ever that might be and that story that we lived continues to be lived out through others who we have impacted. There is no end to the life if that life is in the fullness. It never tastes death.
As we reach the end of 2014, we recognize that we have a new beginning in 2015. This new year is like the gift of Christ that was sent to us. Like all presents there is an hopeful anticipation of “what's in the box”. If we allow reason and love to guide our wisdom we know what we will pull out of the box when we open it. We will participate in the process of true creation that brings us ever closer to grasping the nature of the unknowable Father-Mother. Rather than waiting for our end to come or for the night to come, let's start our day on our terms. Our end comes when we choose to begin life. We embrace the new year and each beginning of our new life each day we die to ourselves and end the year we once were in.
